Welcome to House of True Colors!

About Us

House of True Colors was founded in 2022 by Sarah Johnson, M.Ed. and Stacey Bell, M.Ed. after the two saw the need for inclusive care for children in the Texas Foster Care system. In particular, there is a disproportionate need for foster care for children who identify as LGBTQ and children with disabilities.

What is House of True Colors (HOTC)?

HOTC is an Emergency Shelter serving children ages 0-17 years of age who are placed in the custody of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services on a temporary basis until a more permanent placement is found with a relative or foster home. Children are typically placed in emergency shelters for up to 30 days, and as long as 90 days.

House of True Colors' mission is to provide safe, diverse, and inclusive emergency care for children ages 0 to 17 years old who have entered the Texas Foster Care System. Family preservation is a goal of HOTC, and we strive to keep sibling groups together, and to maintain contact with siblings that are placed separately.
